Alan Bennett has taken up the position of Head of Academy Coaching at Cork City. The club confirmed the role is financed by the League of Ireland Academy Investment Programme.
This national programme is backed by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Sport Ireland. Bennett, who once captained the team and is a product of its youth system, will collaborate with Academy Director Colin O'Brien and other staff to foster the growth of both trainees and instructors.
Alan Bennett shared his honor in accepting the job. He remarked, "I'm extremely proud to take on the role of Head of Coaching at Cork City FC Academy. Having come through the club's academy and represented City as a player and captain, this is a club that means a great deal to me." He also noted the financial backing from government ministers and Sport Ireland for the league's youth systems.
Academy Director Colin O'Brien expressed pleasure at the decision. He said, "I'm delighted to welcome Alan back to the club. This new role is another important step on the journey we are taking with the Club's academy." O'Brien mentioned that Bennett's broad background would greatly benefit the academy's training personnel.
The hiring occurs while the main squad is performing well. Cork City leads the First Division standings. Supporters can follow the team's schedule and results on the club's fixtures page.
