Cork City has confirmed the appointment of Joe Gamble and Craig Donnellan to lead the club’s U13 Development Squad, marking a significant boost for the academy pathway. Both Gamble and Donnellan are former City players and international footballers, renowned for their ability to nurture young talent and uphold high standards. Gamble, who previously served as Cork City assistant manager in 2020, believes the timing is perfect for this new venture. After extensive discussions with Academy Director Liam Kearney and involvement in talent identification, he has a clear vision of the emerging prospects in local football. Gamble stated, 'We feel it’s a good fit and we’re really looking forward to getting started.' The coaching team will oversee the U13 Development Squad from early July to October, preparing players for a smooth transition into the U14 setup and competitive League of Ireland football. They plan to conduct numerous friendly matches, focusing on technical skills and physical readiness during this critical four-month period. Collaboration will be key, as Gamble aims to align all coaches with the club’s standards and structure, ensuring players are well-prepared by January. He emphasizes the importance of expertise, realism, and empathy in coaching, aiming to create a demanding yet supportive environment where young players can learn from their mistakes. Gamble's extensive coaching experience, including his roles in various clubs and youth teams, positions him well to lead this initiative and drive the next generation of Cork City talent.
