Cork City's Jaden Umeh, 18, is facing pressure ahead of Ireland's Nations Cup game with Israel. The young player made his international debut against Qatar and will face Israel in September and October. Umeh, who plays for Ringmahon Rangers, has been praised for his performance in the one-all draw with Canada. He had to sit his Leaving Cert exams at a hotel in Montreal before starting as a winger and playing an impressive 70 minutes of the game. Umeh made his senior debut for Cork City against Bohemians in 2023 and was the youngest player to ever play for Cork at just 15. He plays at centre forward in the U23 set up at Portugese giants Benfica. Rob Heffernan, Cork Olympian and father of Cathal Heffernan, has joined the growing number of voices saying the pressures being put on Irish players are unacceptable. Heffernan called on the FAI to 'grow some balls' and not let this decision fall on the young men wearing the green jersey. The FAI should make the decision and boycott the game, Heffernan added. Ireland are scheduled to face Israel twice during the UEFA Nation's League, the first is set to be played in Israel in September and the second match is due to take place at the Aviva Stadium in October.
