FORAS Raises €10,163 for Down Syndrome Ireland Cork with Limited-Edition Jersey
Cork City supporters' group FORAS has raised over €10,000 for Down Syndrome Ireland Cork through the sale of a limited-edition jersey. The jersey, which features the Sultans of Ping logo, was a huge success, with orders coming in from over a dozen countries around the world.
The limited-edition jersey was designed to pay tribute to the iconic rock band the Sultans of Ping. FORAS Chairman Darren O'Keeffe said demand for the shirt was huge when announced last October, with orders coming in from over a dozen countries around the world.
Why it matters for Cork City
The funds raised will go towards supporting Down Syndrome Ireland Cork's Field of Dreams, a horticultural site that provides further education and preparation for entering the workplace for adults with Down syndrome. The site runs courses specifically designed to provide the skills and experience needed to reach their potential.
FORAS will continue to support grassroots football in Cork, sponsoring a number of schoolboys' and schoolgirls' competitions. The group also arranges match screenings and social nights for City supporters.
As of today, Cork City is leading the First Division with 60 points from 26 games, 20 points clear of Bray Wanderers. They have scored 54 goals this season, conceding 22, and are on a 2-game winning run. Their next fixture is against Kerry at home on August 7th.
The jersey's success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the FORAS board, who managed orders and requests from around the world. The group's efforts have been praised by Down Syndrome Ireland Cork and the Sultans of Ping, who have expressed their gratitude for the support.
The official launch of the jersey was held in Coughlan's Bar on Coughlan's Street, where the first prototype of the jersey hangs framed on the wall, signed by the Sultans of Ping. FORAS Chairman Darren O'Keeffe thanked the band, the families who helped with shipping orders, and the media outlets who spread the word about the jersey's launch.
