Incident and Immediate Aftermath

Oleksandr Zhyvytskyi, 31, left the apartment he shared with his wife and infant daughter in Camden Court, Carroll's Quay, Cork city at 7.30 pm on 16 March. He returned shortly afterwards, visibly injured, and his wife raised the alarm. Paramedics arrived but were unable to resuscitate him; he died in his home.

Identification and Post‑Mortem

Viktoriya Saranchuk formally identified her husband’s body at the morgue in Cork University Hospital. She was accompanied by Garda liaison officer Eric Stafford. State Pathologist Dr Sally Anne Collis performed the post‑mortem on 17 March, and Coroner Philip Comyn read out the findings: a stab wound to the trunk caused the death.

Legal Proceedings

A comprehensive Garda investigation followed. A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution. A 42‑year‑old man was charged with Mr Zhyvytskyi’s murder and appeared in court. Sgt Fergus Twomey applied for an adjournment; the case is now set for trial at the Central Criminal Court. Mr Comyn informed the widow that the matter will return to the Coroner’s Court after the trial, which will take some time. The inquest was adjourned indefinitely.
