Brentford B have completed the permanent signing of Cork City centre-back Donal O'Connor. The 18-year-old joins on a three-year deal, subject to international clearance, after impressing in 10 appearances for Cork City this season. The club currently lead the League of Ireland First Division by 20 points, with a record of 20 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses from 27 games, scoring 57 goals and conceding 23.
O'Connor made his first-team debut for Cork City in a 1-0 win over Treaty United in May. The defender has since become a key figure in the team's strong defensive record, helping them maintain a 20-point lead at the top of the First Division. His performances caught the attention of Brentford B, who have now secured his services on a long-term contract.
Losing a promising young defender like O'Connor is a blow for Cork City, but the club remains in a strong position. They are on a three-game winning run, with their last result being a 3-1 victory over Kerry. Their next fixture is an away game against Treaty United on August 21, where they will look to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Head coach Sam Saunders expressed his delight at securing O'Connor's signature. "We're really pleased to get Donal in," Saunders said. "He brings first-team experience to the B-team group. He's powerful, strong and wants to defend the box. He's got lots of attributes that we feel will help our group and a lot of attributes that we feel we can help develop as well."
