Cork City are the First Division champions. They clinched the title with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Finn Harps at Turner's Cross on Friday night.
Stuart Maguire scored both goals in the first half. He opened the scoring after 24 minutes, finishing from close range after a low cross from Hans Mpongo. Maguire doubled the lead just before the interval, knocking the ball home after a squared pass from Ruairi Keating.
City dominated the opening period, with Mpongo and Seani Maguire creating several chances. The home side's intensity faded after the break, but they never looked troubled. Finn Harps offered little in response, with their only notable action being a pair of early yellow cards for Cullen and Harkin.
The match also marked the end of Greg Bolger's 20-year League of Ireland career. He was substituted in the 63rd minute to a standing ovation and a guard of honour from his teammates.
The result confirms Cork City's position at the summit of the First Division. They now sit on 74 points from 35 games, a commanding 20 points clear of second-placed Bray Wanderers. This victory extends their recent form to just one loss in their last ten league matches, a run that has included eight wins and one draw. Their season concludes with an away trip to face Kerry next Friday, where they will look to finish their campaign on a high. Kerry are currently fourth in the table.
